Grand Teton Family Session on Super 8mm Film

Apr 2, 2024

The most hard hitting form of nostalgia to me is Super 8mm film. Super 8 film is a vintage form of videography that was popular in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. It was the first affordable video footage that was used for home movies! So with that in mind, when K+L wanted to make some memories Tetons, we knew it would be a precious treasure to have Super 8 film added on for their little family session.

K+L are high school sweethearts and got married in 2019. A couple months prior to this session, they found out that they were pregnant with their third child, and wanted something sweet and personal to have from this time in their lives! After some back and forth talking about their dream for their photos and video, we decided to meet in the park at 6:30 in the morning. This can be a very early time for littles, but the perfect time for a fall sunrise illuminating the Tetons an the mountains all to yourselves.

We explored a few of my favorite little Teton nooks, starting with Blacktail Ponds. The whole while, I was shooting Super 8mm film. My approach to family sessions is a very candid, documentary style approach. This allows for lots of room for children to be themselves. I love giving the space for people to interact with nature and each other in a way that is unforced. Especially when it comes to video, you want these special memories to truly reflect you and your story. The results of our early morning time together absolutely tugged at my heartstrings and made me fall so much more in love with Super 8mm film. I have put the combination of photo + video below so you can see how beautifully they compliment each other.
