Relaxed Summer Wedding at Brighton Ski Resort | Brighton Wedding Venue

Sep 24, 2024

As a destination wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting some of the most beautiful locations the country has to offer. However, few can compete with the beauty of Utah during the summer months. Lindsi & Josh’s summer wedding at Brighton Ski Resort proved it. I joined them in the Wasatch mountains just outside of Salt Lake City to capture this couple’s relaxed wedding at the Brighton wedding venue.  It was a beautiful day centered around an incredibly thoughtful couple celebrated with their favorite people.

If I were to plan my own wedding in Utah, I would aim for setting a date either in late June to mid-July, or early September.  Summer and fall in the mountains have their own draws but you can’t go wrong either way. No matter which season you choose, the scenery is dripping with color and picturesque views. September brings every shade of autumnal foliage as the Aspens transform with the changing season. Summer is a show of wildflowers enveloping the mountain sides while the greenery of the forest is at its lushest. Temperatures during this time are more on the mild side as well, which means more comfortable outdoor ceremonies and bridal portraits. Lindsi & Josh’s summer ceremony is a great example of why I favor this time of year. Brighton Ski Resort is one of the top wedding venues in Brighton for couples seeking stunning views and vibrant natural beauty.

Date setting aside, I am also a firm believer that your wedding venue should align with your personalities and the rest of your day should follow suit. The Brighton wedding venue suited the vision that Lindsi & Josh had for their big day to a ‘t’. Located just 35 minutes outside of Salt Lake city, this venue is ideal for couples who have a deep love for the outdoors & want a bit more peace and seclusion for their ceremony. The surrounding forests and breathtaking mountain views were a beautiful backdrop for the photos. As an added bonus, Brighton also offers indoor options in case of inclement weather. The fitting location and the laid back attitudes of this couple contributed to one of the most relaxed, family-centered ceremonies I’ve ever captured. They did things their way from square one, and it was everything they hoped for.

Planning A Candid Wedding Day at a Wedding Venue in Brighton

Your wedding day is for you and every decision you make should align with how you want to spend your time with your soon-to-be spouse and guests. Lindsi and Josh did a beautiful job of planning the wedding day of their dreams and those dreams revolved around enjoying time with their family. They thoughtfully planned every detail from the laid back, social hour type reception to the timeline for formal portraits in order to truly enjoy their wedding day. There was no formal receiving line, no one was running away from the reception for sunset photos. Instead, we shot formals prior to the ceremony, and they laughed and visited with their guests.  Nothing felt rushed and approaching their wedding day from this angle created amazing opportunities for candids at their Brighton wedding venue.

Aspen Tree Ceremony at Brighton Wedding Venue

I was so impressed and moved by the intentionality behind the choices Josh & Lindsi made for their wedding day, especially planting a tree together.  Following their ceremony, we hiked a ways up into the forested part of the ski hill where they planted an aspen tree together as a symbol of their commitment to each other & family.  Aspen trees are unique in that they have a shared root system and all new plants come from shooting off a parent tree’s root system.  They’re all connected as a community, allowing them to be strongly rooted & have support from other trees. They change & adapt with the seasons, even in winter when they sleep but do not die.  This was such a clear simile for Lindsi & Josh’s marriage.  Like aspens, may they embrace seasons of change with a love that never dies, but endures. The surrounding nature of this wedding venue in Brighton perfectly complemented this symbolic ceremony.
