You want an epic wedding in the mountains? Nestled into the western slope of the Tetons in Driggs, Wyoming, Grand Targhee Resort feels absolutely wild in the best way. The mountains are not a backdrop in the distance. They are right in front of you, right under your feet. You are eye level with arguably one of the most iconic mountain ranges in the world.
If you’re considering a wedding at Grand Targhee Resort, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know: ceremony options, reception spaces, weather realities, guest lodging, and how to turn your wedding into a full Tetons experience.

Getting Married at Grand Targhee Resort in Driggs, Wyoming
Located just outside the small mountain town of Driggs (on the Idaho side of the Tetons), Grand Targhee offers a true mountain resort experience without the bustle of a major tourist hub. It’s a lot quieter than Jackson. More local. More laid back. And to me, it was my home for seventeen years. I’ll try to keep my bias out of the wedding guide, but this place absolutely has my heart for so many reasons (becasue I want it to have your heart too!!)
Though off the beaten path of many tourists, you are still directly across the Teton Pass from Jackson Hole. Totally within reach of both Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park!! Which makes it ideal for couples turning their wedding into a multi-day celebration or honeymoon.
The overall vibe here is rugged western mountains meets intimate resort atmosphere. It works beautifully for couples who:
- Love hiking, skiing, biking, or camping
- Want epic scenery without sacrificing guest comfort (this is a big one)
- Care about experience just as much as aesthetics
- Are considering an adventure honeymoon right after the wedding
Grand Targhee Wedding Ceremony Locations
One of the most unique aspects of a Grand Targhee wedding is the option to marry at the summit.
Summit Ceremony (via Ski Lift)
YOU READ THAT RIGHT. You can take a ski lift to your ceremony. How epic truly?!
To get married at the summit, guests purchase lift access (currently around $30 per person), ride up the lift, and then take a short 10-minute light hike to the ceremony site. At the top, you are met with expansive Tetons views that feel almost unreal. The earth drops from beneath you on either side to the expansive Teton range.
This option works best for smaller, more intimate guest counts due to lift logistics and hiking access. It’s adventurous, slightly unconventional, and absolutely unforgettable. And if you aren’t wanting to do a ceremony up here due to logistics, that is totally fine! Another option for this is simply private vows and wedding formals.
A few important considerations:
- The summit is exposed and can be breezy.
- The sun is strong at elevation — sunscreen is essential.
- Lift hours are fixed, which impacts timeline flexibility.
- Weather can shift quickly, especially in shoulder seasons.
- Since this requires a short hike, it is not easily accessible to the elderly or those with mobility needs.
- Additionally, this is not the time to wear heels. Hiking boots, flats, or custom converse are the move here!
But if you want your ceremony to feel like you’re standing at the top of the world – this is it. This is YOUR PLACE.

Base Mountain Ceremony Site
For couples wanting easier access and a more traditional setup, Grand Targhee also offers a designated ceremony location at the base of the mountain.
Here you can have:
- A full chair setup
- An arch or altar structure
- Easy access for all guests
- Close proximity to the lodge and reception areas
This option allows for larger guest counts and smoother transitions into cocktail hour and dinner. You still get mountain views, just without the lift logistics.

With either option, Grand Targhee Resort is such a wonderful place to celebrate a wedding.
Grand Targhee Reception Spaces
After your ceremony, there are several reception configurations available depending on season and style.
Lawn Cocktail Hour
A lawn space near the main lodge is commonly used for cocktail hour. This space is very open a great for a post ceremony celebration. There’s room for yard games, drinks on the deck, and shade for guests.
Summer Tent in the Targhee Forest
During summer, a large white tent is set up in the Targhee Forest near the main cabins. Couples will often use both the lawn and the tent for different parts of the day. This creates a semi-indoor reception space that still feels immersed in nature.
It’s ideal for:
- Dinner + dancing
- String lights
- Long wooden tables
- A relaxed mountain vibe
Lodge Space (Winter or Formal Option)
For winter weddings, or couples wanting a cozier indoor feel, there is a lodge space next to the ceremony site. It’s warm, comfortable, and works beautifully for snowy wedding weekends.
If you’re planning a ski-centered celebration, this is where things could get really fun. Imagine saying your vows strapped into your ski boots, friends and family at the top of the mountain with you, and your aisle photos after that first kiss are you two sweeping down the mountain back to the lodge. Not to put ideas in your head, but this IS a ski lodge wedding site.

Portrait Locations at Grand Targhee Resort
Even if you don’t hold your ceremony at the summit, you can still take portraits there.
I always always always recommend it!!
Taking the ski lift up for couple portraits is one of the most epic experiences you can build into your day. Tetons behind you. Wind in your hair. Nothing but sky and mountain. It is both a story and quite the breathtaking experience.
And if you’re open to a first look, I highly suggest doing it at the summit before the ceremony:
- Partner one rides up first and gets set facing the mountains.
- Partner two follows shortly after.
- You see each other privately at the top.
- Private vows with the mountains as your witness.
- We complete portraits before guests arrive (freeing up the rest of your wedding evening to relax).
It allows for personal vows, quiet breathing room, and intentional time together before the celebration begins.
Then you head back down the lift, freshen up, and flow straight into ceremony and family photos.
Additionally, at the base, there are also stunning aspen groves that glow during golden hour — especially in late September when leaves begin to shift. This is a perfect five minute getaway to take advantage of the last light of your day.

Best Time of Year for a Grand Targhee Wedding
Grand Targhee is stunning year-round, but the seasons matter here.
June (Late Spring / Early Summer)
- Wildflowers like black-eyed susans and mountain lupines bloom.
- Snow may still linger at the summit in early June.
- Afternoon showers are possible though not consistent.
- Temperatures are generally mild and comfortable.
This is one of my top recommendations for the best balance of scenery and weather.
July & August (Peak Summer)
- Warmer temperatures.
- High outdoor activity season.
- Smoke haze can roll in due to western wildfires.
- Beautiful long days, but harsher midday light.
If planning summer, I recommend flexibility and realistic expectations regarding potential smoke.
Late September (Early Fall)
- Aspen trees begin turning gold.
- Cooler temperatures.
- Fewer tourists.
- Occasional early snowfall late in the month.
Late September is magic here!
Winter Weddings
If you love skiing, you can truly build your wedding around a ski weekend. I went on about the vision for this a bit before so I’ll spare you the dream of that again. But it’s very Targhee coded and definitely a unique way to spend your wedding day.
Weather & Logistics to Know Before Booking
These next points are not to scare you away becuase this mountain is epic and insane and romantic and you should absolutely get married here. But a few honest realities about getting married on a mountain:
- The summit is exposed and a little breezy.
- Sun exposure is strong at elevation.
- May can still have snow at the peak.
- June may potentially bring afternoon rain drizzle.
- Late September can bring early snow.
- Lift hours dictate summit timing.
- Midday light at the summit can be bright and contrast-heavy.
None of these are deal-breakers. I just want you to have all the information you need as they just require thoughtful planning.
With the right timeline, flexibility, and expectations, it becomes part of the story rather than a stressor.
Guest Lodging at Grand Targhee Resort
One of the major perks of hosting your wedding here is the on-site lodging.
There are extensive lodging options available at the resort, and couples can reserve entire blocks for their guests. This keeps everyone centralized and makes the weekend feel immersive.
For guests wanting alternative accommodations, there are numerous vacation rentals in nearby Driggs with full a Tetons views sitting in the backyard, typically about 20 minutes away.
There are lots of options, which makes it easy to accommodate different budgets and group sizes.
Turning Your Grand Targhee Wedding into a Tetons Weekend
If you are getting married here, I cannot stress this enough:
Do not just come for the wedding day.
Spend the week. Spend the week.
Just over the Teton Pass is Jackson, an iconic and vibrant western town filled with restaurants, shops, and an active nightlife.
And directly beyond it lies Grand Teton National Park, which would be absolutely criminal to skip.
Some favorite activities for couples and guests:
- Swimming at Jenny Lake
- The accessible and beautiful Taggart Lake Trail hike
- Fly fishing the Snake River
- Rock climbing
- White water rafting
- Horseback riding in Tetonia
- Picnic dinners under the Tetons
- A huckleberry shake from Victor’s Emporium in nearby Victor
Whether you extend your celebration with family or begin your honeymoon immediately after, this corner of Wyoming deserves time. There isn’t an end to my list of recommendations for how to enjoy this area.

Ideal Guest Count for a Grand Targhee Wedding
Grand Targhee can host weddings of varying sizes. That said, I have personally found a sweet spot around 30–70 guests.
It allows:
- Comfortable use of space
- Easier lift logistics (if doing summit portraits)
- Lower overall guest-related costs
- A more intimate, connected atmosphere
This venue feels especially aligned with couples who value intentionality over scale.
Who is a Grand Targhee Wedding Perfect For?
This is for couples who:
- Feel at home in the mountains
- Want rugged western beauty
- Don’t mind a little wind in their veil
- Value experience over perfection
- Would rather hike than sit still
- See their wedding as the beginning of an adventure
If that sounds like you, the Tetons are waitingggg.
Jackson Hole Wedding Photographer
Oh wow, you read this all?! Hi friend!! I’m Elayna, a photographer based primarily in Jackson Hole, also serving the PNW and Utah.

You’re working with a local guide who cares deeply about your experience here.
I care about how it feels when you step off the lift.
