Couples Session on Film in the Tetons

Nov 11, 2024

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, film is such a beautiful medium to document memories on. I have spent the last four years working to hone in on my film photography and perfecting these old processes (and it’s something that has now followed me all over the world now)!! I want all who crave the tactile to have their moments photographed in such a way that they have physical copies of such adventures. For Lex and Trev, I photographed their couples session in the Tetons on 35mm film.

Hike to Taggart Lake

Lex and Trev were down for an adventure when it came to planning their session, so we decided that spending it at Taggart Lake on this warm summer day would be the perfect start to the afternoon. We hiked to the lake and ended up having the view to nearly to ourselves. We of course had to spend some time on the iconic rock overlook before hiking further in to get to a quiet beach jutting out into the center of the lake. Trev is also a film photographer, so he took some of his own photos of Lex while we walked around together.

Sunset on 35mm Film

After the lake, we made it back to the parking lot in time for the most beautiful soft sunset light at one of my FAVORITE spots for couples sessions in all the Tetons. It was made all the better by being photographed on film.

Flash Film Photography at the Wedding Tree in the Tetons

With the light getting dimmer, we ran off to the Wedding Tree just outside of Grand Teton National Park to end the night. From the view above the Teton valley, we watched color wash over the mountains. I used a mixture of flash film photography and utilized silhouettes against the sky. Those can be a bit riskier – film loves light, and I was really pushing the Portra 400 for these. It ended up being a perfect end to the night and no film was wasted with the gamble against the sun, a feat for sure.

Jackson Hole Couples Film Photographer

Elayna RaNae Photo and Film is a Jackson Hole wedding photographer who specializes in film photography and videography. I have done the whole gamut – 35mm film, medium format, large format, super 8mm film, and instant film – and it is something I love to incorporate into both engagements and elopements here. If you vibe with these and would want to hire me for your own couples session on film in the Tetons, totally reach out and we will make it happen!! For the lovers of nostalgia and the tangible, I do a happy dance every time I get an inquiry for film and would be beyond stoked to connect with more people who love these mediums.
